Quit Smoking - How To Prepare For Your Quitting Day

Quitting Day 

  • "No Smoking"  2 hours prior to your appointment
  • "No Caffeine"   2 hours prior to your appointment
  • Throw away all cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, etc. (Before your appointment)
  • Keep very busy, and surround yourself with non-smokers
  • Clean your clothes to get rid of the odor
  • Decide how you are going to reward yourself when you stay tobacco free for 24 hours, one week, one month, one year.
  • Put the money you would have spent on cigarettes each day into a jar and see how much you can save in one month.  Makes for a nice vacation at the end of one year.

Before You Quit Smoking

  • Select a date to stop smoking and stick to it
  • Tell everyone the date you are going to quit smoking
  • Write a list of all the reasons why you want to quit and keep it wth you
  • Put off having your first cigarette of the day - add more time each day
  • Don't carry cigarettes with you, make them inconvenient
  • Deep clean your house and car to remove the odor
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Exercise
  • Sit in non-smoking areas
  • Practice stress management or deep breathing
  • Create a "survival kit" that includes gum, hard candy, cinnamon sticks, toothpicks, straws, pretzels, fruit, vegetable sticks, sunflower seeds, stress ball
